Ross Tamlin (New Zealand)

Ross was born in New Zealand. He emigrated to Australia and became an Australian citizen in 1982. Ross spent several years at Studio 1+2 in the inner Sydney suburb of Rozelle where he developed his modern realist style of painting. Five years ago, Ross moved to the Northern Rivers where he now lives and works. His work is in private and corporate collections in Hong Kong, America, Switzerland, France, Britain and Australia.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My idea is to transmute traditional corrugated iron into works of modern art. The corrugation in the painting is a visual illusion created by layers of paint. Most people can connect with these panels because corrugated iron is a familiar sight in suburbia. However, the sense of seeing the traditional is contradicted by the contemporary signage.
