Anarchy of Senses by Ghasan Saaid (Australia) 16 Aug - 18 Sep 2010
In Ghasan’s solo exhibition titled Anarchy of Senses, Ghasan guides viewers from anarchy to self-deliberation. Ghasan triggers audiences’ self-exploration on the inexplicable - our unconsciousness by disclosing living experiences in the half-lights.
Right after our attention is drawn by the attractive, colourful and familiar icons on his canvas, the simplicity of the icons together with the mysterious or exotic symbols then evokes our deeper reflection on the secretive and obscure relationship between the individual, the group, and the environment, and culture we live in. Moreover, through portraying the conscious visual in its simplest form, Ghasan extracts the viewer from the surface contemplation of the visual, leading them to see and reflect on the deeper stir - aesthetic sensation. Presence is reduced and the tumultuous and separated images are uplifted further through his use of a sharp stroke across the surface.
